November 2008 - January 2009

Volunteers are welcome to work on the library site any time you have available. Bring your tools. We will put the roof on the cabin/office the weekend of November 22, 2008. Need a volunteer crew to form up & help pour the concrete slab under the variety store (Treasure Chest) so the builders can come back & get it framed up before winter. We need to get the rest of the wood off the ground very soon.

FUNDRAISER: Help purchase the lunber & kit to make this playground for the town of Dexter. Be sure to designate "Playground fund" on your donation. We will need volunteers to help build the play yard. The goal is to start this project in May, 2009. The goal is to raise $2,200.00 for this project.

Nov. 2, 2008:Last Organized Workday on Lighthouse Library: November 1, 2008. 8:00 a.m.  until dark. Come to 104 S. Main in Dexter to volunteer to help build a library for this rural area in Kansas. Licensed carpenters on site to oversee project. All levels of volunteers needed. Many varied tasks to accomplish that day.  

Thanksgiving Food Box Distribution: November 22, 2008 - Dexter Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. From 9:00 a.m.  to Noon. 

Community Thanksgiving Dinner: November 20, 2008 - Dexter City Buidling.
 

December 6, 2008: Dexter Christmas in the Valley. See the Dexter Baptist Church Handbell Choir perform at the historical Dexter Baptist Church. Doors open at the church for an open house from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Stop in for Cidar, Hot Cocoa, Coffee, and snacks.

Stop in at the Lighthouse Library Site's Open House during the Christmas in the Valley Celebration. Register for a two-night stay in the Grouse Valley Lodge, a cabin on the site. Drawing in time for Christmas. You may stay any two nights you choose. Also - anyone mailing in a donation for the library for at least $25.00 are registered in the drawing. ECCRC, PO Box 40, Dexter, KS 67038. The site is at 104 S. Main in Dexter - the historical Shadid Store site. (Click on the library tab for more information.) Donations are tax deductible.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET:
Family Memorial get-together for members of the Eastern Cowley County Grief Recovery Group. Covered Dish lunch on Sunday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. - Burden City Park. Bring a covered dish.  Plates, cups, & silverware provided by ECCRC. Everyone is invited. Do not have to be a member of the group to attend. Anyone who has lost a loved one is welcome!

Please bring a photo of the loved one whom you are remembering for out tribute wall. Your photo will be posted for the picnic & then will remain on display in the front window of ECCRC for a period of time. You may either pick your photo back up or leave a self-addressed envelope & it wil be mailed back to you. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!__________________________________________________________________

2009 ECCRC Workshops Forming

(Two Fall Quilt Workshops will be announced for November & December, 2008. Check back for dates. The workshops will be held at the Dexter Baptist Church Fellowship Hall or at Dexter City Building.)  Most of this fall will be spent moving in to the new location in Dexter and finishing the building project. More time will be dedicated to workshops in the Spring of 2009. Get your name on the workshops reservation list if you would like to be included. ECCRC has offered community workshops since its start in the fall of 2003.

ECCRC is forming Basic Computer Workshops for Spring Semester - 2009.

Call to get your name on the list. Also forming two

quit workshops. Call Donita Pettigrew or ECCRC

to sign up for those. Also forming E-Bay Workshops

(Back by request). Call ECCRC to add your name to

the workshop list to reserve your seat.

Only cost - $10.00 for first workshop this Spring

(in partnership with Cowley College). Second workshop

is only $5.00. Runs from Jan. - June. 2009 semester.  You may

COMING SOON: The Treasure Chest Online - an online extension of the on-site variety store that is located on the Lighthouse Library building site. This unique variety store includes unique gifts and toys for the kids, ocean-themed items, and gently-used clothing. Other useful household items will be available. Daily needs items such as soap will also be available. Limited edition hand-made Donis Dolls will also be available at The Treasure Chest. Check back for online ordering in time for Christmas. The store will open on site as soon as the construction is completed. The virtual Treasure Chest will open mid-November. You may access it from a link from this site.

Eastern Cowley County Area

Garage Sale on April 26th. 

The small towns of Dexter, Burden, Cambridge, & Atlanta will hold their annual

all-town garage sale. Area businesses & families are encouraged to participate.

ECCRC will be participating at the LIGHTHOUSE LIBRARY location

in Dexter at 104 S. Main & in Burden at the ECCRC office

at 405 W. 5th Ave -Suite B (East Door).

We will have some computers, computer parts, tables,

office furniture, & other items. Some of the items that were donated for the

ECCRC auction last summer will be available. Proceeds will go to fund

ECCRC Projects!
